I almost didn’t bother with this week’s reading when I drew these cards. The cards aren’t exactly a welcome sight. What with the person being attacked from all directions and the devil enjoying a joy ride at our expense, it’s not very appealing. But life isn’t always sunshine and flowers is it?
When we see a person being attacked, they are vulnerable. They may feel so unempowered that everything they encounter is like a personal attack. And when they see other people living it up and being carefree and extravagant, this does not help matters.
I think these cards relay the feeling of the state of the UK at the moment. We hear the news which constantly beats down on us, and the doom and gloom of everything is almost intolerable to us. Together with those who want to be in power, riding high with their fat bank accounts and high living, who have no idea what being a normal citizen is like, working paycheck to paycheck and watching every penny, it’s no wonder the poor person looks like a walking battlefield.
The only saving grace I thought I could see was the owl flying high above the spikey fence railings until I realised it was out hunting for its prey.
Oh well, looks like this week is another one of those to try and get through unscathed and hope for a better week next week.
